The Big Body Interactive

This interactive was a collaboration between several groups of people to create an oversized body with interactions for the nervous system, circulatory system, skeleton, and organs.  The nervous system includes touch sensors at 8 points around the body that illuminate laser wire "nerves" running through the body to the brain, which in turn fire led "synapses" in the brain. The circulatory system includes a pump handle which drives an archimedes screw, pumping ball bearings (blood cells) into the arteries of the body, where they then flow to the extremities. Finally, the organs and bones are shaped from a high density colored foam and are placed into cavities on the top of the body like a giant puzzle.  My thanks to M Catton & Co., Kraemer Design & Production, Sleet Custom Cabinets, and Kirby Science Discovery Center for all of the work developing, fabricating, and maintaining this exhibit.
